Virgin credit card sacrificed

Monday April 7, 2008

Virgin Money credit cards are no longer available for application since the 3rd of April, due to the ending of an agreement with Westpac. Those who still possess a Virgin Money credit card need not worry, though, as service for existing cards will still continue through the fine services offered by Westpac. This is cold comfort for those who were hoping to benefit from what the Virgin Money credit card offered. There are a few credit cards that provide similar features and should make more than suitable alternatives to the Virgin Money credit card.

The HSBC Low Rate Credit Card provides almost identical features to the Virgin Money credit card. Both share a six month interest free period on balance transfers and a low rate of 12.99% p.a. on purchases. They both also provide up to 55 interest free days on purchases. The HSBC Low Rate Credit Card does charge an annual fee, unlike the Virgin Money credit card, but this is not charged for the first year and is low at only $39. For a card comparable to the Virgin Money credit card, you should consider the HSBC Low Rate Credit Card.

The Citibank Clear Card is another credit card comparable to the Virgin Money credit card. A low purchase rate of 11.99% p.a. for the Citibank Clear Card is an excellent advantage; however it does charge a reasonably high annual fee of $65. On interest free days, the Virgin Money credit card and Citibank Clear Card are evenly matched, so the Citibank Clear Card provides an excellent alternative for those who think they may need to repay the occasional amount after the interest free period has elapsed.
