Do you have the right credit cards?

Wednesday August 27, 2008

Credit cards do not all have the same features and this is because they are all designed to appeal to different users. Someone looking for credit cards that will reward spending and repayments will want different features on credit cards than someone who wants credit cards to help reduce debt.

Making sure you have the right credit cards for your needs is important. You must first figure out what it is that you need or want in credit cards. This can very loosely be categorised into three general types of users: reward program credit cards users, budget credit cards users and low use.

Reward program credit cards users

Reward program credit cards users tend to just use credit cards as a convenient means of financing purchases. They pay off their entire balance within the interest free period on purchases and they avoid accruing more debt than they can easily repay in the interest free timeframe. Suitable credit cards can include simple reward program credit cards, cash back credit cards, gold credit cards, platinum credit cards, and airline rewards credit cards.

Budget credit cards users

Budget credit cards users tend to need credit cards with low interest rates, generous interest free days and long interest free balance transfer periods for reducing debt. They will often benefit from balance transfer credit cards, interest free credit cards that have interest free days on purchases, and low interest credit cards.

Low use

For those who rarely at all use credit cards, no annual fee credit cards can be ideal. They rarely have interest free days on purchases, though, so sometime low annual fee credit cards can be more beneficial. As low annual fee credit cards still tend to have some interest free days on purchases, they can sometimes cost less annually than no annual fee credit cards, depending o n the user.
