Plastic credit cards to become obsolete

Monday May 11, 2009

Banks and financial institutions have announced that they are developing an innovative new version of the humble credit card: a new biodegradable credit card.

This turn of events comes after Virgin Money announced that it will begin producing credit cards made from biodegradable materials, with environmentalist entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson stating that Virgin Money will release a green credit card in the future, although a date has not been announced.

Virgin Money further said that the green credit cards initiative is still in production with materials and techniques still being decided to produce the best biodegradable credit cards.

In addition to Virgin Money another major UK financial services provider, Barclaycard, has stated that they will also be following suit with the release of a green credit card called Breathe. Barclaycard will be producing Breathe credit cards from an alternative to PVC cards, known as PETG.
