ANZ gives students Visa cards

ANZ Bank plans to release over 50,000 Visa prepaid cards to university students in Sydney that can be used by these students to pay any university costs including textbooks or library usage costs. Students are able to put money onto the cards to charge them up for use around the University of Sydney.

Designed to double as student identification and as a primary source of funding for university students, the card can also be used to buy certain services and products around the campus along with use as working as a building access pass.

Details of the ANZ Bank's student prepaid cards include:

Free reloading of funds onto the card on campus
50 cent charge to reload the card using BPA
No fees when withdrawing cash using an ANZ ATM
Standard fees when using other banks ATMs

Keeping ANZ bank in the headlines is the fact that it was one of three banks to be deemed as having the best payment card brands, along with Westpac and Bendigo Bank, according to a survey of 6000 card holders conducted last month by the FOREBRAND Best Brands Index.

In fact it was ANZ's range of branded credit cards and similar that were viewed in the highest regard by their cardholders.

Rounding out the rest of the order was Commonwealth Bank of Australia in fourth position, and then it's wholly owned subsidiary BankWest and National Australia Bank coming in last. It should be noted that this survey was completed before Westpac's actions of raising interest rates well above the Reserve Bank of Australia and its "banana video" campaign which was poorly received by its customers.
